Granite Men – FCC’s Men’s Discipleship Program

“Transforming Our Community, One Man at a Time”

Too often men go to church without any real sense of purpose. They participate in activities because they are supposed to, or because someone asks them to, but they don’t really know why they are involved. Most of them have never been given a compelling reason why the church should be a priority in their lives. They have never heard—in language they can relate to—that joining Christ in transforming the world is the adventure their hearts have always longed for.
(No Man Left Behind, Patrick Morley,David Delk and Brett Clemmer)

Men long to be part of something bigger than themselves, Sir Ernest Shackleton, the intrepid explorer, when he was about to set out on one of his expeditions, printed a statement in the papers, to this effect: Men wanted for hazardous journey to the South Pole. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.  Shackleton clearly understood that men wanted to be challenged, they did not want to live lives of quiet desperation and mediocrity. Unfortunately in too many instances men have not found that kind of challenge today and the unraveling of our culture is clear evidence of that: unhealthy addictions, unbridled anger, a string of unhealthy and broken relationships and a host of other social maladies are plaguing us and tearing our society apart. When men fail, women cry and are left to pick up the pieces while children are devastated.

The purpose of Granite Men Ministry is to help the men of Faith Community Church and our community become disciples—men who are called to walk with Christ, equipped to live like Christ and sent to work for Christ (2 Timothy 3:15-17).

We will do this by helping men develop authentic relationships with Christian men that will help them: Find the true meaning of the gospel through relevant teaching and shared experiences, become leaders in their households and in the church and be living examples of the gospel in the marketplace, the community, and the world.

We will accomplish this through frequent interaction and in small group settings.  We will come together often to study God’s word, we will break out into small groups and encourage one another to lead lives worthy of our Savior. Additionally, we will come together for major events on a quarterly basis, those events will include conferences, seminars, leadership training, and retreats.

Finally, every man should strive to have three men in his life. A Paul, someone who is spiritually more mature and is helping him grow as a godly man,  a Barnabas a friend who he can walk side-by-side with and share the mountains and valleys of the spiritual walk, and lastly a Timothy, somebody he is helping grow and mature in Christ.  Through our small group interactions we will help facilitate this.  Evangelism without discipleship is cruel.

We look forward to walking this journey to Biblical manhood with you. Please pray about being part of our Granite Men’s Ministry.
